FAITH FOUNDATION

Baptism-Membership Course (BMC)

This course prepares believers for baptism & membership in the Church.

It strengthens one’s understanding of foundational beliefs and takes one further in experiencing freedom and growth in living the Christian life. It includes teaching on the Holy Spirit, how Christians are to be committed to one another and the need to bring God’s love to the world.

There are 2 cycles of classes, BMC 2 and BMC 3. You may register for either cycle.

A) Retreat is on 27 November.
B) Baptism is on 5 December during E2 Service.
C) Confirmation candidates join the course on Week 7 (Sep 26 for BMC 2 and Oct 9 for BMC 3). Confirmation will be in 2011. You will be informed of the date later.

BIBLICAL/DOCTRINAL STUDIES

1. Know The Word (KTW) Bible Class

This is a systematic book by book study of the Bible on a Sunday morning by experienced instructors and facilitators. In the second half of 2010, KTW will study the life and ministry of Christ, as taught in the four Gospels. There will be group discussion time after some of the lessons. There is also a concurrent ‘Know the Word’ Children's track at Conference Room (B405). The aim of KTW is Bible literacy and to help our members go deeper in the Word.

Classes resumes on July 4, 2010 with 'Birth & Childhood of Jesus' and ends on Nov 21, 2010. There is NO KTW on Jul 25, Aug 22, Sep 26, Oct 10 and Oct 24.

2. Old Testament Survey (OVER)

This course will allow you to study the Old Testament as a whole and explore the historical background, themes and message of the 39 books. You will cover thousands of years of history and scores of famous places and discover a wealth of new insights and understanding. What you once may have thought was the most confusing part of the Bible will come to life in a memorable learning experience.

3. Biblical Theology: Implications of Covenant (OVER)

Biblical Theology looks at themes that run like veins throughout the Scriptures, and seeks to understand their essence and implications. This course does a survey of the theme of Covenant in the Old and New Testaments, and seeks to understand:
 
(a) the basic meaning and purpose of Covenant, and
(b) the implications Covenant has for our Christian living and witness.

4. How to Read the Bible (OVER)

This course is designed to help us read the Bible with greater understanding. It will cover topics such as:
How did the Bible come about? How is it organized? What is the central message of the Bible? What Bible tools can I use to help me understand the Word better? How do I interpret the various books of the Bible?

The course will be taught interactively and participants will have the opportunity to interpret one or two passages of Scripture, using the skills taught in the course.
Do come and learn how to handle God’s Word rightly!

5. The Living Word: Making a Difference - Being Disciples of a Different Kind of God (OVER)

Are we tough enough to be disciples for the Lord Jesus in our modern society today? Learn from Mark’s Gospel how we can make a difference as disciples.

6. New Testament Survey

The New Testament is a collection of 27 books which is centered on the key figure of Jesus. Although each of these books has its own author and theme, combined together, the whole New Testament is one of history’s most fascinating texts which basically recounts for its readers the life and ministry of Jesus, interprets for the Christians the meaning of all that Jesus had done through the cross and instructs all believers on what is involved in being a follower of Christ.

This course will provide a brief overview of all the New Testament books according to these main categories: the Gospels & Acts, the Pauline & General Epistles and the book of Revelation. The primary focus will be on the setting, theme, purpose and the general content of each of these books.

CHRISTIAN LIVING & SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

1. Foundational Missions Training (FMT) (OVER)

This course is specially designed to help members understand the biblical basis of missions and grasp God’s heartbeat for missions.

Get to know what it takes when you cross cultures.  To discover more about the different personalities, and how you can play a part in God’s mission by living out your life with a greater vision, meaning and purpose.

2. Contemplative Prayer Retreat (CPR) 

Come aside with God for 3 days to listen to Him, individually and corporately! It will be a time to learn about Biblical Meditation and how to hear God's Word for our life - on a daily basis. We will get to explore hands-on the ways God speaks to each one of us through the life of Jesus in the Gospels. It will also be a time of rest and fellowship with one another in God.

About the Instructors :

Revd Simon Tan is an ex-Associate Pastor with World Revival Prayer Fellowship, a charismatic evangelical church from 1991 to 2008. Both Simon and Rinda are graduates of Bible College of New Zealand where they were trained in Spiritual Formation and have in the last 18 years being involved in giving Contemplative Prayer Retreats both in Singapore and beyond her shores. Simon and Rinda are also trained and experienced in Spiritual Direction. Currently, both of them are free-lance Retreat Facilitators. 


3. The Marriage Course (TMC)

This is a series of 8 sessions designed to help married couples strengthen their relationship. It is a great opportunity to spend time together as a couple looking at the important issues in your marriage. The Marriage Course is very practical and will help equip you with the tools needed to build a healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime.

4. Search for Life (SFL)

Human beings are spectacular, puzzling, brilliant and broken. Why do so many   

contradictions exist in our lives? Everyone needs to understand the power of our internal

cry for acceptance, value and belonging. This programme identifies the cause of so many

human tensions and introduces participants to the healing power of God’s truth in a caring

environment.

SFL is a 10-session programme produced by Careforce Lifekeys (Melbourne, Australia) and

organised by Pastoral Counselling Ministry, SJSM.
